I assumed it would be an interesting read but had no idea how eye-opening it would be as I started reading it moments after the airplane hit the blue sky. </p><p>As a marketing professional working in entertainment, it's a constant grind that's fun but also tiring. So, taking time to think about my contribution to the world and how I can be a stronger leader often gets postponed to tackle an important business priority. Luckily, I took off a week from work to relax and ask myself some important questions:</p><p></p><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>How can I be more creative?</li><li>What am I not doing as a leader that could help me?</li><li>How can I make a bigger impact?</li></ul><p></p><p>Yeah, I know, these questions are loaded but <i>The Art of Possibility</i> helped me begin to answer these and go a bit deeper inside of myself to explore even more possibilities. Here's first quote I underlined in the book:</p><p style="text-align: center;">"The frames our minds create define<span face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" style="background-color: white; caret-color: rgb(74, 74, 74); color: #4a4a4a; font-size: 18px;">—</span>and confine<span face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" style="background-color: white; caret-color: rgb(74, 74, 74); color: #4a4a4a; font-size: 18px;">—</span>what we perceive to be possible."</p><p>These words came after having reads do the well-known <a href="https://www.artofplay.com/blogs/articles/history-of-the-nine-dot-problem" target="_blank">9 dot puzzle challenge</a> in which you have to join all nine dots with four straight lines without taking your pen off the paper. Take a look and try it out! As I tried to do it, I kept wondering how to keep the lines within the small box. I didn't think of the possibility to go outside the box. After the answer was revealed by the authors, they go on to explain how the puzzle may appear unsolvable inside a particular point of view until you look at it within a different framework... and then new possibilities emerge! Isn't this true about life? Many of us try to put everything in a box, including ourselves, because our minds have been conditioned to create constructs that often don't exist. By page 15 in the book, I felt like my questions were already starting to be answered: Don't try to fit inside the box. </p><p>Trying to fit within a box is the opposite of truly being creative, and often makes people feel stuck. It's sort of like working a job that makes you go into the office every day, sit at a specific space, eat at 12pm for lunch, do the same daily tasks, and that's it. There's no freedom to ever work from home or maybe eat at a different time. Over time, complacency or a lack of motivation often occurs in some form as well as a feeling of what's the point? What this book made me realize, or wake up inside of me is, we can choose our perspective. Instead of creating limitations in our mind from a place of lacking, let's think of what's possible and use innovative thinking to hit our goals. </p><p>What if we all had the power to wake up each day and say: How will I be a contribution today?</p><p>There's no right or wrong answer. Truthfully, as I thought of my answer, I came up with a blank. I feel like I contribute all the time both personally and professionally. I think another question is important to help answer the first: what would have to change for me to be completely fulfilled? </p><p>I felt a bit stuck until I came across Rule Number 6, which is a chapter in the book that's all about <i>not </i>taking yourself seriously and lightening up. The pressure that I put on myself to be perfect, have all the answers, and avoid mistakes is way too high. There's value in making mistakes, accepting that things will often change, and knowing most things just ain't that serious. I definitely know that to a certain degree and use humor to connect with others but I need to apply this rule as often as possible. </p><p style="text-align: center;">"When we follow Rule Number 6 and lighten up over childish demands and entitlements, we are instantly transported into a remarkable universe."</p><p style="text-align: center;">"Mistakes can be like ice. If we resist them, we may keep on slipping into a posture of defeat. If we include mistakes in our definition of performance, we are likely to glide through them and appreciate the beauty of the longer run."</p><p style="text-align: left;">What would we all do if we weren't afraid? If we lean into our creativity and didn't try to fit into a box. What if we could learn from our mistakes in a way that's supportive and encouraging? This book made me realize how much I hold myself back sometimes, and tend to look at things within a box point-of-view. Just because I consider myself to be a creative and open-minded person doesn't mean I can't fall into this way of thinking. Great news: I'm human and that's okay. I'm recommitting to kicking open the box and always asking, what's possible that I'm not seeing? How can I contribute in ways that are innovative and fulfilling? </p><p>I'm so excited to go on this journey of discovery with self-compassion and curiosity. I encourage you to find a book on your bookshelf that's been collecting dust and read it. Chances are you bought it for a reason and it'll be a positive experience. If you've read something recently that made a big impact, please share it in the comments of this post. </p><p>Stay curious!</p>Lauren Hamiltonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05114867666903274550noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5045645065558680737.post-46817282067938191592019-04-28T10:41:00.001-07:002019-04-28T10:42:22.979-07:00How to Use An Amazon LockerAn <a href="https://www.amazon.com/b?ie=UTF8&node=6442600011">Amazon Locker</a> is easy to use, quick (at times), and convenient.<br />

I've been using Amazon Lockers for several years, and it's always surprising to me that many people I know still haven't heard of them. I live in a big city where there are plenty of lockers so I'm sort of spoiled; they aren't in every city. Let's go over a few things I like and don't like about these:<br />
<br />
What I like about Amazon Lockers:<br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>I can return items at no cost to me</li>
<li>They are easy to use</li>
<li>Same day or two-day shipping still applies</li>
<li>I can get in other shopping (grocery, etc.)</li>
<li>You can pick up a package in your PJs</li>
</ul>
<br />
What I don't like about Amazon Lockers:<br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>Parking can be difficult if it's a high-traffic business</li>
<li>You can't order large items such as a TV, microwave, or vacuum</li>
<li>They can be hard to find </li>
<li>If they're inside of a small business, people can often be in the way</li>
<li>They are only in certain cities</li>
<li>Sometimes the lockers are full</li>
</ul>

<br /></div>
<span style="font-family: inherit;">Millions of people have an Amazon Prime Account, including myself. And if you don't, you're probably using a friend's account to make purchases. We've all been there and done that!<br /><br />What surprises me the most about Amazon Prime Members is the lack of knowledge regarding the perks they get simply by having an account. Truth is, I didn't even understand all of the benefits until earlier this year, which is why I would like to share some of them with you.</span><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><span style="font-family: inherit;">6 Amazon Prime Perks You Probably Don't Know About</span></b></div>
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /><b>1. <u>Free Same-Day Delivery</u></b>: As an Amazon Prime member, you can choose to receive FREE Same-Day Delivery on qualifying orders that are $35 or more. Currently, Amazon does same-day delivery in select metro areas.<br /><br /><b>2. <u>Amazing Prime Pantry Deals</u></b>: According to Amazon, "<a href="https://www.amazon.com/gp/pantry/info">Prime Pantry</a> is a store where Prime members can shop for groceries and household products in everyday package sizes." Basically, you can buy everything you need from Prime Pantry: toothpaste, dog treats, soap, snacks, detergent, etc. Not only is it convenient, but also saves $$ by offering coupons and special deals exclusively for its members. Each box has a $5.99 delivery fee, but you can often get it waived via a special promotion. I was able to get a $5.99 Prime Pantry credit by simply waiting a few extra days to receive one of my Prime shipments. Make sure you look out for these special offers because they pop up frequently, and don't always stick around. <br /><br />As of now, if you buy 5 select items, you will get FREE shipping on your <a href="https://www.amazon.com/gp/pantry/info/pantrypromotion">Pantry box</a>. </span><br />

Currently, as a Prime member you can save 20% on diaper subscriptions, and other products in Amazon Family. You can order through Alexa without having to subscribe. We’re talking over a million songs (U.S. only). </span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: inherit;">5. <u><b>Unlimited Photo Storage</b></u>: I was paying over $4 a month to store my photos... until <a href="https://www.amazon.com/clouddrive/primephotos">Prime Photos</a> came along and saved the day! Yes, it's true, you can securely store photos for FREE as an Amazon Prime member to your Amazon Cloud Drive. Additionally, members also have easy access to saved content on multiple devices, and automatic photo backup. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: inherit;">6. <u><b>Restaurant Delivery</b></u>: First off, make sure you enter in your zip code in the <a href="https://local.amazon.com/businesses/merchants/restaurants/how-it-works/restaurant">Prime Now</a> app to see if there are restaurants that deliver to your area. As a Prime member, you can place orders for one-hour or two-hour delivery in select areas. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I recently purchased my first <a href="https://www.amazon.com/b?ie=UTF8&node=7301146011">Amazon Prime Pantry</a> box and felt so excited to get it in the mail! I went ahead and ordered it when my box was only around 80 percent full since I had a credit on my account that would cover the $5.99 fee. When I first received the box, I was surprised by the size and weight of it. But, it completely makes sense because I ordered numerous items.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Since so many people ask me what I buy on Amazon, I decided to make a video of me opening my first Amazon Prime Pantry box. Check out the video here:</div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I added a detailed list of what I purchased so you can see the cost of each item. And so you can see what you're missing out on if you don't have an Amazon Prime Account. Try to guess the total after you see all of the items. I bet you'll be wrong!</div>

However, if you're busy or haven't had the time to research Prime Day, certain details about the global shopping event may not be clear. So, I'm going to answer 10 questions that will help you save money on Tuesday, July 12th! You'll definitely want to be informed; many analysts are predicting that Amazon's Prime Day could double in sales compared to last year.</div>
<div style="color: #3e3e3e; font-family: 'gotham ssm a', 'gotham ssm b', 'proxima nova', 'open sans', 'helvetica neue', helvetica, arial, sans-serif; margin-bottom: 22px; margin-top: 22px; word-wrap: break-word;">
Let's get into the questions and answers:</div>
<h2 style="color: #3e3e3e; font-family: 'gotham ssm a', 'gotham ssm b', 'proxima nova', 'open sans', 'helvetica neue', helvetica, arial, sans-serif; margin: 22px 0px; word-wrap: break-word;">
<span style="font-size: large;">
10. What is Prime Day and how long does it last?</span></h2>
<div style="color: #3e3e3e; font-family: 'gotham ssm a', 'gotham ssm b', 'proxima nova', 'open sans', 'helvetica neue', helvetica, arial, sans-serif; margin-bottom: 22px; margin-top: 22px; word-wrap: break-word;">
Last year, <a data-cke-saved-href="http://www.Amazon.com" href="http://www.amazon.com/" style="-webkit-transition: border-color 0.1s ease-in-out; border-bottom-color: rgb(121, 121, 121); border-bottom-style: solid; border-bottom-width: 1px; color: #2777ae; text-decoration: none; transition: border-color 0.1s ease-in-out;" target="_blank">Amazon</a> decided to start <a data-cke-saved-href="https://www.amazon.com/?tag=georiot-trd-20&ascsubtag=hawk-1048312191-20" href="https://www.amazon.com/?tag=georiot-trd-20&ascsubtag=hawk-1048312191-20" style="-webkit-transition: border-color 0.1s ease-in-out; border-bottom-color: rgb(121, 121, 121); border-bottom-style: solid; border-bottom-width: 1px; color: #2777ae; text-decoration: none; transition: border-color 0.1s ease-in-out;" target="_blank">Prime Day</a> to celebrate its 20th anniversary, which is essentially "a one-day only global shopping event exclusively for Prime Members" according to Amazon. It begins on Tuesday, July 12th at 12am Pacific Standard Time and lasts <em>one day</em>.</div>
<h2 style="color: #3e3e3e; font-family: 'gotham ssm a', 'gotham ssm b', 'proxima nova', 'open sans', 'helvetica neue', helvetica, arial, sans-serif; margin: 22px 0px; word-wrap: break-word;">
<span style="font-size: large;">
9. Can anyone shop on Prime Day?</span></h2>
<div style="color: #3e3e3e; font-family: 'gotham ssm a', 'gotham ssm b', 'proxima nova', 'open sans', 'helvetica neue', helvetica, arial, sans-serif; margin-bottom: 22px; margin-top: 22px; word-wrap: break-word;">
No. You must have an Amazon Prime account in order to have access to the 2016 Prime Day deals. My suggestion is that you get a Prime Account ASAP. Then, once you've done that, quickly <a data-cke-saved-href="http://www.i4u.com/2016/07/113080/creating-shopping-list-best-way-catch-amazon-prime-day-2016-deals" href="http://www.i4u.com/2016/07/113080/creating-shopping-list-best-way-catch-amazon-prime-day-2016-deals" style="-webkit-transition: border-color 0.1s ease-in-out; border-bottom-color: rgb(121, 121, 121); border-bottom-style: solid; border-bottom-width: 1px; color: #2777ae; text-decoration: none; transition: border-color 0.1s ease-in-out;" target="_blank">create a shopping list</a> so that you're able to take advantage of the best deals. Since there will be over 100,000 items on sale for Prime Day, it's critical that you're organized because the hottest deals will be the hardest to get! Did I mention you may win <a data-cke-saved-href="https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/primeday?tag=viglink122389-20" href="https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/primeday?tag=viglink122389-20" style="-webkit-transition: border-color 0.1s ease-in-out; border-bottom-color: rgb(121, 121, 121); border-bottom-style: solid; border-bottom-width: 1px; color: #2777ae; text-decoration: none; transition: border-color 0.1s ease-in-out;" target="_blank">$1,000 by creating a Shopping List</a>?</div>
<h2 style="color: #3e3e3e; font-family: 'gotham ssm a', 'gotham ssm b', 'proxima nova', 'open sans', 'helvetica neue', helvetica, arial, sans-serif; margin: 22px 0px; word-wrap: break-word;">
<span style="font-size: large;">
8. How will I know when an item from my Shopping List goes on sale?</span></h2>
<div style="color: #3e3e3e; font-family: 'gotham ssm a', 'gotham ssm b', 'proxima nova', 'open sans', 'helvetica neue', helvetica, arial, sans-serif; margin-bottom: 22px; margin-top: 22px; word-wrap: break-word;">
You need to download the <a data-cke-saved-href="https://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html?docId=1000625601" href="https://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html?docId=1000625601" style="-webkit-transition: border-color 0.1s ease-in-out; border-bottom-color: rgb(121, 121, 121); border-bottom-style: solid; border-bottom-width: 1px; color: #2777ae; text-decoration: none; transition: border-color 0.1s ease-in-out;" target="_blank">Amazon app</a> on your phone immediately. Stop what you're doing now if you don't have it yet, and get that app on your phone. Here's how it will work: Amazon will send a notification to your phone if an item in your Shopping List is a Prime Day Lightning Deal. You will then need to place the order.</div>
<b><span style="font-size: large;">7. <span style="color: #3e3e3e; font-family: "gotham ssm a" , "gotham ssm b" , "proxima nova" , "open sans" , "helvetica neue" , "helvetica" , "arial" , sans-serif;">Should I purchase a 99-a-year Amazon Prime Membership?</span></span></b><br />
<div style="color: #3e3e3e; font-family: 'gotham ssm a', 'gotham ssm b', 'proxima nova', 'open sans', 'helvetica neue', helvetica, arial, sans-serif; margin-bottom: 22px; margin-top: 22px; word-wrap: break-word;">
Absolutely! And, Amazon is NOT paying me to say that. I avoided getting a Prime account for a long, long time. When I finally did, I realized how much money and time I was saving by using it. You're going to read many websites that tell you to get the Prime Membership and then cancel it after Prime Day. But, I think you should keep it! Why? You get access to <a data-cke-saved-href="https://www.amazon.com/gp/pantry/info" href="https://www.amazon.com/gp/pantry/info" style="-webkit-transition: border-color 0.1s ease-in-out; border-bottom-color: rgb(121, 121, 121); border-bottom-style: solid; border-bottom-width: 1px; color: #2777ae; text-decoration: none; transition: border-color 0.1s ease-in-out;" target="_blank">Prime Pantry</a>, which allows you to save major bucks on household, beauty, and other products. You also get free photo storage, discounts on diapers, access to Amazon shows, and much more. Email me at Lauren@TheLHFactor.com with any questions.</div>
<h2 style="color: #3e3e3e; font-family: 'gotham ssm a', 'gotham ssm b', 'proxima nova', 'open sans', 'helvetica neue', helvetica, arial, sans-serif; margin: 22px 0px; word-wrap: break-word;">
<span style="font-size: large;">
6. What kind of items are going to be on sale for Prime Day?</span></h2>
<div style="color: #3e3e3e; font-family: 'gotham ssm a', 'gotham ssm b', 'proxima nova', 'open sans', 'helvetica neue', helvetica, arial, sans-serif; margin-bottom: 22px; margin-top: 22px; word-wrap: break-word;">
Since there will be over 100,000 items on sale for Prime Day, I can't go over each one. But, here are some of them: televisions, watches, Kindle products, and even special experiences with musical artists such as Flo Rida and Blink 182. Amazon is saying that products from almost all departments will be going on sale on July 12th. So, I would just expect that whatever you have in mind will be offered at a discounted rate on Prime Day. </div>
<div style="color: #3e3e3e; font-family: 'gotham ssm a', 'gotham ssm b', 'proxima nova', 'open sans', 'helvetica neue', helvetica, arial, sans-serif; margin-bottom: 22px; margin-top: 22px; word-wrap: break-word;">
To give you an idea of what you may be saving, for last year's Prime Day there was a deal that gave Amazon Prime customers 30% off Xbox Ones. There were also deals that included 47% off headphones, 30% off cameras, and 50% off Kindle Fire HDs. </div>
<h2 id="yui_3_17_2_1_1467955359759_28262" style="color: #3e3e3e; font-family: 'gotham ssm a', 'gotham ssm b', 'proxima nova', 'open sans', 'helvetica neue', helvetica, arial, sans-serif; margin: 22px 0px; text-align: center; word-wrap: break-word;">
<span style="font-size: large;">
<iframe border="0" frameborder="0" height="50" marginwidth="0" scrolling="no" src="//rcm-na.amazon-adsystem.com/e/cm?o=1&p=288&l=ur1&category=firetv&banner=1FYRHNRY2S78X96ADR02&f=ifr&linkID=06431884fbf0e28aacd45d9333ded5be&t=amazo010a-20&tracking_id=amazo010a-20" style="border: none;" width="320"></iframe> </span></h2>
<h2 id="yui_3_17_2_1_1467955359759_28262" style="color: #3e3e3e; font-family: 'gotham ssm a', 'gotham ssm b', 'proxima nova', 'open sans', 'helvetica neue', helvetica, arial, sans-serif; margin: 22px 0px; word-wrap: break-word;">
<span style="font-size: large;">
5. Do I have to purchase a product right away, or can I wait since it's in my cart?</span></h2>
<div id="yui_3_17_2_1_1467955359759_28378" style="color: #3e3e3e; font-family: 'gotham ssm a', 'gotham ssm b', 'proxima nova', 'open sans', 'helvetica neue', helvetica, arial, sans-serif; margin-bottom: 22px; margin-top: 22px; word-wrap: break-word;">
If you want to ensure that you get the deal for that product, you should definitely make the purchase immediately. When you're shopping on Amazon, please remember that simply placing an item in <a data-cke-saved-href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=468468" href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=468468" style="-webkit-transition: border-color 0.1s ease-in-out; border-bottom-color: rgb(121, 121, 121); border-bottom-style: solid; border-bottom-width: 1px; color: #2777ae; text-decoration: none; transition: border-color 0.1s ease-in-out;" target="_blank">your cart does not</a> reserve it. You have to place an order to complete the purchase. So, make sure you receive a confirmation email on Prime Day to make sure you placed the order. </div>
<div style="color: #3e3e3e; font-family: 'gotham ssm a', 'gotham ssm b', 'proxima nova', 'open sans', 'helvetica neue', helvetica, arial, sans-serif; margin-bottom: 22px; margin-top: 22px; word-wrap: break-word;">
Do not get caught up in the other deals and start wasting 30, 40 or 60 minutes. You don't have time for that!</div>
<h2 style="color: #3e3e3e; font-family: 'gotham ssm a', 'gotham ssm b', 'proxima nova', 'open sans', 'helvetica neue', helvetica, arial, sans-serif; margin: 22px 0px; word-wrap: break-word;">
<span style="font-size: large;">
4. Am I actually saving money by shopping on Prime Day?</span></h2>
<div style="color: #3e3e3e; font-family: 'gotham ssm a', 'gotham ssm b', 'proxima nova', 'open sans', 'helvetica neue', helvetica, arial, sans-serif; margin-bottom: 22px; margin-top: 22px; word-wrap: break-word;">
Unless you have access to MAJOR discounts on popular electronics, fitness equipment, music, and much more the answer is YES. This week, Amazon rolled out an early Prime Day deal: a 32-inch television with a Fire TV stick for only $120. oh, and a Dell Desktop was on sale for around $700. See more of the deals you missed out on <a data-cke-saved-href="http://www.ign.com/articles/2016/07/05/daily-deals-early-prime-day-deals-bond-and-bourne-movies-gaming-headset-xbox-one-remote" href="http://www.ign.com/articles/2016/07/05/daily-deals-early-prime-day-deals-bond-and-bourne-movies-gaming-headset-xbox-one-remote" style="-webkit-transition: border-color 0.1s ease-in-out; border-bottom-color: rgb(121, 121, 121); border-bottom-style: solid; border-bottom-width: 1px; color: #2777ae; text-decoration: none; transition: border-color 0.1s ease-in-out;" target="_blank">here</a>. So, on certain items you may be able to save up to 60% if not more.</div>
<div style="color: #3e3e3e; font-family: 'gotham ssm a', 'gotham ssm b', 'proxima nova', 'open sans', 'helvetica neue', helvetica, arial, sans-serif; margin-bottom: 22px; margin-top: 22px; word-wrap: break-word;">
ADVICE: Do research before you start shopping and creating your Shopping List. Although I believe you will find awesome deals, it doesn't mean you are getting the best deal. So, make sure to do comparison shopping! Go on other retail websites and look at what they are charging for the items you'd like to purchase on Prime Day.</div>
<h2 style="color: #3e3e3e; font-family: 'gotham ssm a', 'gotham ssm b', 'proxima nova', 'open sans', 'helvetica neue', helvetica, arial, sans-serif; margin: 22px 0px; word-wrap: break-word;">
<span style="font-size: large;">
3. Can I just sign up for the Amazon Prime free trial?</span></h2>

Maybe. Many sites want to compete with Amazon's big day, and will offer decent deals. I would encourage you to start researching those websites now so that you don't waste time on Prime Day trying to figure out your options. In order to save the most money, it's important that you know the answer to this question before July 12th. </div>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZYurxwLUtvCNlVtdjB5Ci2z6j5Kd2kjnWUuIS4J_nnmiEbEEht0XJ3OfIuRm7wqX2HxSdPAJdIk8vBXtAouHvJkZ26f7qUmy-vU-_omfQZwU1mgFizsQf2-dq7ctC4piMESSenOUQCo8/s1600/12.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZYurxwLUtvCNlVtdjB5Ci2z6j5Kd2kjnWUuIS4J_nnmiEbEEht0XJ3OfIuRm7wqX2HxSdPAJdIk8vBXtAouHvJkZ26f7qUmy-vU-_omfQZwU1mgFizsQf2-dq7ctC4piMESSenOUQCo8/s320/12.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
Although there are 1.65 billion active users on Facebook according to <a href="http://www.statista.com/statistics/264810/number-of-monthly-active-facebook-users-worldwide/">Statista</a>, that doesn't mean everyone knows how to use the popular social media network. Truthfully, if you're not familiar with Facebook, it can be confusing to use. And, as a Marketer, I often get questions about social media--ranging from simple to complex.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So, this is why I decided to start #LaurensHelpDesk in which I answer questions about marketing, social media, and much more (such as Amazon). No question is a dumb question! For the first #LaurensHelpDesk, my trusted side kick--Violet--chose the questions from a pile of many! Francine out of Wisconsin asked me,</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>How do you delete a post from Facebook?</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Good question, Francine! Check out the <a href="http://bit.ly/HowtoDeleteFBPost">YouTube video</a> I made answering your question:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<iframe width="320" height="266" class="YOUTUBE-iframe-video" data-thumbnail-src="https://i.ytimg.com/vi/2USZSmAZtsI/0.jpg" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/2USZSmAZtsI?feature=player_embedded" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe></div>
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Also, here are the steps to delete a post from Facebook just so you have it:</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
1) Log in to your Facebook account</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
2) Go to your timeline (some also call it "profile")<br />
3) Find the post you want to delete<br />
4) Click the arrow symbol at the top right corner of the post<br />
5) From the list of options, select "delete"<br />
6) Confirm the deletion<br />
7) Refresh your page to confirm that the post has been deleted<br />
<br />
If you have anymore questions, feel free to email me at Lauren@TheLHFactor.com!<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIhKMeYdI6PnO2d5W4v0BgNPAgvcC0CKsr6AEqF7Xbk47AKsTI81ZHqnGiVViRnDcQPUsi9hIQ-gAjpyzWWtmSzi-28VGU9OTreQoZ0GI87i1WSZ4wzyDvDN16FY1W3Sin3fw8Y-pF5ew/s1600/IMG_3448.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIhKMeYdI6PnO2d5W4v0BgNPAgvcC0CKsr6AEqF7Xbk47AKsTI81ZHqnGiVViRnDcQPUsi9hIQ-gAjpyzWWtmSzi-28VGU9OTreQoZ0GI87i1WSZ4wzyDvDN16FY1W3Sin3fw8Y-pF5ew/s320/IMG_3448.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
I've been shopping on <a href="http://www.amazon.com/">Amazon</a> for years. However, last year I started using Amazon Prime multiple times a week. I was getting packages so often that it became a joke at my job (that's where I had packages delivered). My co-workers eventually called me a "Prime Addict" and thought I was an unofficial spokesperson for Amazon. As the weeks went by and the boxes kept coming, I started to agree with them.<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
In October of last year, I jokingly said to my colleagues that I was going to start a web series called, <a href="http://bit.ly/1URhlEa">Amazonaholic</a>. Then, I started to give the idea some serious thought and had a conversation with myself (I have many of those). </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>"Do I love Amazon Prime?"</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>"Am I an Amazonaholic?"</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>"Could I write a ton of scripts about Amazon?"</b></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The answer to ALL of those questions was YES. So, that's when I decided to spend one evening brainstorming what <i>Amazonaholic </i> the web series would be. After several hours and a few glasses of wine, I had over 5 episodes written. That's when I realized I had to make them, and approached several actors I know. Luckily, they all wanted to be a part of the project and thought it would be fun. My cousin who is the CEO of Librium Pictures came on as the Director. It all came together quickly and easily!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>

In March of this year, we filmed the first 4 episodes. Here are a few pictures from the set:</div>

I just purchased my first <a data-cke-saved-href="https://www.amazon.com/Dash-Buttons/b?ie=UTF8&node=10667898011" href="https://www.amazon.com/Dash-Buttons/b?ie=UTF8&node=10667898011" style="color: #f9b862; text-decoration: none;" target="_blank">Amazon Dash Button</a>, and got it in the mail. My first impression: cute, small, and great packaging. When I took it out of the box, I pressed the button a few times (not on purpose) and proceeded to panic. <strong>Note: If you press the button, don't worry; you have to set up your Amazon Dash Button first!</strong> I then grabbed the directions at the bottom of the box. Make sure you don't miss them because they are easy to miss. I didn't see them the first time! </div>

Here are some things to keep in mind:</div>
<ol id="yui_3_17_2_4_1467429164373_5249" style="color: rgba(8, 0, 26, 0.701961); font-family: freight-sans-pro; font-size: 16px; letter-spacing: 0.30000001192092896px; word-wrap: break-word;">
<li id="yui_3_17_2_4_1467429164373_5265"><strong>Turn ON notifications.</strong> When you're setting up your <a data-cke-saved-href="https://www.amazon.com/Dash-Buttons/b?ie=UTF8&node=10667898011" href="https://www.amazon.com/Dash-Buttons/b?ie=UTF8&node=10667898011" style="color: #f9b862; text-decoration: none;" target="_blank">Amazon Dash Button</a>, you have the option of being notified after you've made a reorder. This is great because if you accidentally press it, you'll get a notification on your phone and be able to cancel it before it's shipped.</li>
<li><strong>Use the adhesive</strong>. This ensures that it will stay in one place and not move around. You don't want to lose your button! </li>
<li id="yui_3_17_2_4_1467429164373_5248"><strong>Make sure the details are correct</strong>. When you're setting up your dash button, double check that your name & address are correct. It never hurts to take another look.</li>
</ol>
<div id="yui_3_17_2_4_1467429164373_5224" style="color: rgba(8, 0, 26, 0.701961); font-family: freight-sans-pro; font-size: 16px; letter-spacing: 0.30000001192092896px; word-wrap: break-word;">
Let's get into the pros and cons of the Amazon Dash Button:</div>
<h2 class="text-align-center" id="yui_3_17_2_4_1467429164373_5246" style="color: rgba(28, 28, 28, 0.901961); font-family: freight-sans-pro; font-size: 24px; font-weight: 500; letter-spacing: 1px; line-height: 1.2em; margin: 1em 0px 0.5em; text-align: center; text-rendering: optimizelegibility; word-wrap: break-word;">
<strong id="yui_3_17_2_4_1467429164373_5245">THE CONS</strong></h2>
<h2 class="text-align-center" style="color: rgba(28, 28, 28, 0.901961); font-family: freight-sans-pro; font-size: 24px; font-weight: 500; letter-spacing: 1px; line-height: 1.2em; margin: 1em 0px 0.5em; text-align: center; text-rendering: optimizelegibility; word-wrap: break-word;">
</h2>
<ul id="yui_3_17_2_4_1467429164373_5227" style="color: rgba(8, 0, 26, 0.701961); font-family: freight-sans-pro; font-size: 16px; letter-spacing: 0.30000001192092896px; word-wrap: break-word;">
<li><strong>You have to pay $4.99 for each button</strong>. So, if you're a Prime Member, you get a $4.99 credit AFTER your first "click" of the button. And, you can do this for each button you purchase. However, if you don't make that first "click" you will not get the $4.99 credit. I still think the price is too high even though you have a chance to get the $4.99 credit. At the end of the day, the money still comes out of your pocket and into Amazon's. Why not reduce the cost?</li>
<li><strong>The button could be smaller</strong>. Yes, it’s already small. But, imagine if you have one in each room. They start to stick out. And if it’s something that goes on a small appliance like a coffee maker, it’s not cute boo. My suggestion is that they make different sizes.</li>
<li><strong>Need more brand selection</strong>. Since buttons just came out in 2015, there’s not a huge selection. </li>
<li id="yui_3_17_2_4_1467429164373_5233"><strong>Put a magnet in it</strong>. The first thing I did when I got my button is try to put it on my fridge. It fell. I get that Amazon wants you to put the button near the item you’ll be reordering, but I want it in a place I often go to so I don’t forget. </li>
<li id="yui_3_17_2_4_1467429164373_5226"><span style="font-size: 7pt;"> </span>Lastly, I'm still mad about these buttons being $4.99!</li>
</ul>
<h2 class="text-align-center" id="yui_3_17_2_4_1467429164373_5231" style="color: rgba(28, 28, 28, 0.901961); font-size: 24px; letter-spacing: 1px; line-height: 1.2em; margin: 1em 0px 0.5em; text-align: center; word-wrap: break-word;">
THE PROS</h2>
<ul id="yui_3_17_2_4_1467429164373_5230" style="color: rgba(8, 0, 26, 0.701961); font-family: freight-sans-pro; font-size: 16px; letter-spacing: 0.30000001192092896px; word-wrap: break-word;">
<li id="yui_3_17_2_4_1467429164373_5229"><strong>Makes life easier and saves time</strong>. Press a button and BAM! You get your package without even getting out a device. Now, that's love!</li>
<li><strong>It’s a great reminder</strong>. Seeing one of these is a great reminder to reorder whatever I need.</li>
<li><strong>It’s easy to set up and use</strong>. It took me under 10 minutes to set up my button.</li>
</ul>
<div style="color: rgba(8, 0, 26, 0.701961); font-family: freight-sans-pro; font-size: 16px; letter-spacing: 0.30000001192092896px; text-align: justify; word-wrap: break-word;">
Overall, I think the Amazon Dash Button is worth it ESPECIALLY if you live a busy and active life. However, Amazon needs to figure out a way to make them cheaper. If I wanted 10 of them, there's no way I would spend $50. After all, each time I press the button, I'm spending money. Hopefully, the price will go down to $2 each or less.<br />

This includes my own blog, and also work I've done for other websites. There are major differences in writing your own blog compared to writing <b>paid</b> pieces for a website, such as:<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>Your Own Blog vs. Writing for A Website (paid)</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b>1. Prepare to Pitch, Edit, and Rewrite</b></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
When you are being hired to write a blog for a website, you have to abide by the established tone and standards. Sure, you've been hired because of your skills and voice, but that doesn't mean you get complete freedom. For example, I write for a top entertainment website--<a href="http://www.therichest.com/">The Richest</a>--and I have rewritten one piece four times to please my editor (over 16 hours). I pitched several spins on the same topic, and then kept editing and eventually rewriting several times until my editor was happy. If you want to succeed as a professional blogger, you have to be able to go the extra mile. My editor was happy with my work; she simply felt spinning the piece in a different way would increase the amount of views. You cannot take things personally when it comes to writing for a website. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
In terms of your own blog, you have complete freedom. You can choose to post about a specific topic, and edit each post if you feel like it. However, you still have to respect the needs of your audience, and work hard to keep them reading. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b>2. Money, Money, and Mo' Money</b></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
There are the lucky few who are making big money on blogging, such as <a href="http://perezhilton.com/">Perez Hilton</a>. However, for the majority of peeps, it's not very lucrative. Or, the money that you make isn't consistent. Writing for a website allows you to make a consist amount of money if you're good at what you do. For example, because I have had viral posts on <a href="http://www.therichest.com/">The Richest</a>, I am now able to write as many articles as I would like each month. Typically, you have to prove yourself in order to start making good money as a Freelance Writer. When I first started blogging, my payment per piece was incredibly low. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
The reason that I tell people to really think about writing for your own blog, or for a website is because it takes time to grow your audience. However, you can make BIG money once you get a following and learn how to market to your audience.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<b>3. It's All About Who You Know</b></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
When you write for an established brand, such as <a href="http://www.buzzfeed.com/">BuzzFeed </a>or <a href="http://www.mashable.com/">Mashable</a>, that will begin to open up doors because they are recognizable and respected names. After I worked for a celebrity brand as well as large corporations, I started to get opportunities I was never afforded. Sometimes in your career you have to make smart decisions; working with a successful company in your field is a great example of that.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
The great thing is if you're a Freelance Writer, you can easily maintain your own blog while also writing for other websites. Just focus on being creative and working your tail off. Soon enough you will begin to see results. What I mean by working hard is not occasionally putting in an extra hour or two. Working hard is doing what I am doing now: Writing on a Sunday when all of my friends are out having drinks. #DoWhatYouHaveToDo.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Those are just a few differences between blogging for your own website and being paid to write for a different one. The important thing to figure out is which path you want to take, and then to stick with your plan. However, if a career changing opportunity comes up, be open to it!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Keep in mind that all of my advice is meant for those who don't already have a hugely successful blog, or website. For those that do, obviously you can create revenue by having a strong marketing and content strategy in place. If you need advice, feel free to email me at: HamiltonWriting@gmail.com. My consulting fees are completely reasonable. </div>

It has been a great experience and he's truly one of the nicest people I've ever met! And, everyone in his family has a big heart. They help out people and always give to those in need. Andrew even has his own foundation called, <a href="http://www.rujohnfoundation.com/">The RuJohn Foundation</a>.<br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Andrew Bachelor with Prime Minister of Jamaica, Portia Simpson Miller</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
I'm often asked, <i>how did you start working with Andrew?</i> Well, as a writer who wanted to work with him, I simply reached out to his agent. After weeks of waiting--since the King of Vine is so busy--Andrew emailed me. He wanted to know how I could help him out. I quickly sent over my resume and told him I would like to work with him. But, not collaborate; I wanted to be on his team. Sort of like Kevin Hart has his own core team of people who are behind the scenes -- that's what I wanted to be for Andrew.<br />
<br />
When I met with #KingBach in a restaurant in Hollywood, CA last year he was extremely courteous and attentive. He had not only looked over my resume but also thoroughly researched me online. This is what I realized...<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i><b>Smart and successful people are protective of who they allow into their circle </b></i></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<i><b><br /></b></i></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
As we started talking I offered him bottled water and even food, but he politely declined. I could tell he was on a mission to get to know me and understand my motives/what I could contribute to his goals. A few questions he asked:</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
"What are your long-term goals?"</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
"How many projects do you have fully complete?"</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
"Do you have your own transportation to get around?"</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
He clearly wasn't playing around. Luckily, I wasn't either and fully answered his questions. And, I passed! From that point on, Andrew and I have been working together. My main focus has been on his social media strategy and growing audience engagement. It's been fun and a pleasure to work with such a nice man who is also famous and incredibly talented. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
In future postings I will start to share some of my experiences with Andrew, reveal some of my social media tips that I've implemented, and much more. Stay tuned and feel free to write any comments or ask any questions.</div>

<br />
As many of you know, I created, wrote, executive produced, and starred in my web series about dating called <i>Single_Never_Married</i>. It is also based off the book I wrote called <i>How to Get Real About Dating</i>. The web series was selected to be in the Los Angeles Web Festival this year, which was a great experience. Here's an episode if you haven't seen it --<br />

<br />
The first season is done and we have two left to publish on Youtube. This has been a great experience and now I am planning on doing the second season. There are MAJOR surprises in store! I'm adding three more main characters and expanding the shows. It's going to be like a mixture between <i>Girls </i>and<i> Sex in the City</i>. In the second season, issues around age, acceptance, sexuality, love, and relationships are discussed.<br />
<br />
As of now, I want to pitch it to Lifetime, or OWN. I think it would be a great fit! I am also looking for investors to fund the second season and take it to the next level. If you know of anyone or have interest in investing please email me at HamiltonWriting@gmail.com. We're looking to raise around $35,000. Plus, we can get famous actors and already have a business proposal with all of the details.Lauren Hamiltonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05114867666903274550noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5045645065558680737.post-4359086786244096732014-05-11T18:10:00.001-07:002014-05-11T18:10:57.886-07:00Michael Sam: NFL's First Openly Gay Player<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The news came to Michael on Saturday evening as he sat with his boyfriend looking courageous despite not hearing his name being called as the seventh round picks began being named. Although he looked confident and strong, I was getting worried. Why was the SEC co-defensive player of the year in 2013 not chosen in the second or third round? He's all the things you'd like to see in an NFL player: talented, respectful, classy, motivated, multi-dimensional, and smart. This was very obvious to me when I met him a few weeks ago in Los Angeles, California with his adorable boyfriend, Vito Cammisano.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Yes, his name was called late but the important thing is that Michael Sam made it into the NFL! The St. Louis Rams are lucky to have such a great football player. I know coach Jeff Fisher will handle the situation with dignity and grace.</div>

Bart Baker is known as the King of Parodies and recently had his parody of Katy Perry's "Dark Horse" go viral. Andrew Bachelor is known as the King of Vine and also stars in several television shows. They are teaming up to a parody music video of Pharrell's huge hit song, "Happy". I was on set to film behind-the-scenes footage of Andrew Bachelor for his fans. Here are a few pictures I captured. Make sure to watch out for their video, which will be out this Saturday. Links are at the end of this post!</div>

I will be moderating a panel at UCLA called, Images in Blackness. It's featuring Lena Waithe and Justin Simien. I am very impressed by these two individuals and can't wait to learn more about them! I was asked to moderate this panel after the director saw that my web show, <a href="http://www.willptv.com/">Single_Never_Married</a>, was announced as an official selection in <a href="http://www.lawebfest.com/">LAweb Festival</a>. If you haven't already seen the show, here's the first episode:<br />

<div>
<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The process of preparing for this panel discussion has been a long and arduous task, but I feel ready. In order to moderate an event well, you have to have a strategy in place and excellent time management skills. Since I didn't have anyone to help me the first time I moderated, I wanted to write this blog post to help those of you who may be doing this in the future.</div>
</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br />
<div>
<b><span style="font-size: large;"><u>10 Tips to Moderate Your Event Successfully</u></span></b></div>
<div>
<b><span style="font-size: large;"><u><br /></u></span></b></div>
<div>
<b><u>1) Research the Panelists</u></b></div>
<div>
On average, I start to research the panelists 2-3 weeks prior to the event. In the beginning, I only lightly read the things I find to slowly familiarize myself with them. After that, around two weeks before the event, I go deeper into their work and professional experience. I also start to take notes using Word, which I will incorporate into my outline for the actual event. When it's a week before, I already have pages of notes about each panelist and can easily--off the cuff--tell a stranger their biography. Yes, I know it sounds like it may be too much, but you want to over prepare rather than under prepare. Why? If you're at the event and don't know anything about the panelists, your credibility is immediately destroyed. </div>
<div>
<b><u><br /></u></b></div>
<div>
<b><u>2) Know Your Audience</u></b></div>
<div>
The first thing I research before agreeing to moderate an event is the audience. Luckily, you usually know what the audience will be like once you know the venue and event. For example, as I prepare to moderate the event at UCLA, I can automatically assume that there will be college students, professors, and faculty members in the audience. So, with that information, I am now able to shape my questions and content. I urge you to take time to really think about your audience and what you want them to get from the panelists. My goal at the UCLA event, since the panelists have a lot of web experience, is to ask various questions about how young individuals can get started making online content. I also have a set of questions geared to the professors and faculty members. You must know who is sitting in front of you!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<b><u>3) Prepare Questions</u></b></div>
<div>
Prepare more questions than you'll need. I often practice in front of my father who was a SVP of a major company back in the day and has experience public speaking. When I was getting ready for my first panel I said, "It's a short discussion; I won't need a lot of questions." My father said, "If you have twenty questions, you should have forty ready to ask." That was some of the best advice ever! Coincidentally, the audience wasn't talkative or asking questions, so I would have been in a tough situation if I only had twenty questions prepared.</div>
<div>
How many questions do you need? For every hour of the event, write out at least 15 questions. So, if the event is from 7-10, have 45 questions prepared. That way, if something goes wrong or if you have extra time, you aren't thrown off your game. </div>
<div>
<b><u><br /></u></b></div>
<div>
<b><u>4) Type Everything Out </u></b></div>
<div>
Please do this. I don't care if you've practiced five hundred times in front of your dog; you will need this paper because we all are capable of forgetting. Sometimes when I get on a stage, my nerves get to me and I blank out. But when I remember I have that piece of paper, I feel relieved. Sometimes I still need to bust it out, but usually I don't. There's something about knowing you can fall back on it that helps. Anything you can do that'll make you feel more at ease, do it!</div>
<div>
<b><u><br /></u></b></div>
<div>
<b><u>5) Practice, Practice, Practice </u></b></div>
<div>
Practice even when you feel like it's perfect. Then, practice again and again and again. If you're new to moderating, I would say going over everything from top to bottom in front of 5-10 people is best. If you're experienced, still do it. No one is immune to mistakes, nerves, and needing a little support.</div>
<div>
<b><u><br /></u></b></div>
<div>
<b><u>6) Get to the Venue Early</u></b></div>
<div>
So, you live only five miles away and know the venue like the back of your hand? That doesn't matter; still plan on arriving an hour early. You never know what may come up.</div>
<div>
Since I live in Los Angeles, parking is always a challenge. For a recent panel I was moderating, I left an hour and a half early to go 6 miles. I arrived at the location over an hour early but couldn't find parking. After an hour and on the brink of being late, I finally found a space. If I didn't have that cushion, I would have missed the event!</div>
<div>
Also, being there early allows you the chance to get used to the room. Where's the nearest clock? How big is the room? Is it too hot or cold? How many people are in the audience? Do you have a projector or any other equipment you can utilize?</div>
<div>
<b><u><br /></u></b></div>
<div>
<b><u>7) Be Cool and Be Real</u></b></div>
<div>
Be yourself. Don't try to act or be someone you're not. Just know that who you are is perfect and that you were hired to moderate because you're awesome. I know that is can be nerve racking and sometimes you may wonder if you can do it. You can. Remain relaxed and calm. If you need to meditate, chant, or take a shot before the event, go ahead and do it. I guarantee the audience will respond better when you let your guard down and act as you normally do.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<b><u>8) Stay on Schedule</u></b></div>
<div>
It's easy to start the event and get lost in what the panelists are saying, or simply lose track of time. You won't always have the director of the event to keep you on schedule, or some random intern. So, that means as you practice, you must practice with time in mind. Yes, use a stop watch. Make sure you have an idea of how long a panelist gets to speak for each question. </div>
<div>
That's why getting to the venue early is so critical. If you don't see a clock nearby, you'll have time to find one and place it in a good area.</div>
<div>
<b><u><br /></u></b></div>
<div>
<b><u>9) Don't Force it</u></b></div>
<div>
Sometimes you'll be moderating an event and the audience won't give you anything! Meaning, you will hear silence. You can't yell at them and say, "Ask a question!" That would be rude. So, you have a few options: start asking questions or create a new conversation with the panelists. I would recommend going into questions when the audience is silent; usually, they will feel inspired to eventually say or ask something. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<b><u>10) 'Thank' Everyone</u></b></div>
<div>
When the event is over, offer your gratitude to the panelists and the audience. Go up to the panelists and express this, and also e-mail each one after the event. Also, make sure to e-mail the person who asked you to moderate the event. Professionalism is key. That's how you stand out as well. When you do a great job moderating plus you're professional and humble, people want to work with you again. Make contacts, network, and be gracious. It can lead to more work and more money. Who doesn't like money?</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I hope these tips helped! Have you ever moderated an event? If so, how did it go? Share your stories and experiences. I'd love to hear them! And if there's anything else you want to add, feel free to do so!</div>

I get these questions on a daily basis about my amazing, kind, and tender-hearted doggie who I named Violet after rescuing her on August 13th, 2013.</div>
<div class="font_8" style="background-position: 0px 0px; border: 0px; font-family: 'open sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">

Yes, Violet was abandoned on the streets after being bred as a puppy herself and left for dead. Allow me to tell you the story of how we (Lauren and Violet) found each other.</div>
<div class="font_8" style="background-position: 0px 0px; border: 0px; font-family: 'open sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<br /></div>
<div class="font_8" style="background-position: 0px 0px; border: 0px; font-family: 'open sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
In early August of 2013 I was telling a co-worker about how lonely I felt living in Los Angeles and not meeting anyone special. She replied, "Lauren, why don't you just get a dog then?" As she walked out of the room, her words hit me hard. I didn't realize how deeply until I was up that evening very late at night looking for pure bred dogs. I found quite a few and even emailed several breeders about the puppies they were selling. Most of them were in the range of $1,200-$2,500 each. I finally decided on one that was a pure bred male Havanese at only $1,500. He had slight spotting, which is what I was looking for. I only had to drive to Arizona, which was nine hours away.</div>
<div class="font_8" style="background-position: 0px 0px; border: 0px; font-family: 'open sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<br /></div>
<div class="font_8" style="background-position: 0px 0px; border: 0px; font-family: 'open sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Fast forward a few days and all of my friends (three in total) were telling me not to do it. One friend said, "I got a puppy and after six days of him peeing everywhere, I told my husband to take it back. Don't do it, Lauren." At first, I didn't listen to all of these comments but then I got real with myself: "Lauren, can you deal with a puppy? Maybe they're right--just adopt an older doggy. It will be easier on both of you." And that's when I started looking on PetFinder, which is a huge database for dogs in shelters that need to be adopted fast. Oftentimes, these dogs are euthanized within a week. </div>
<div class="font_8" style="background-position: 0px 0px; border: 0px; font-family: 'open sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<br /></div>
<div class="font_8" style="background-position: 0px 0px; border: 0px; font-family: 'open sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
So once again, I'm up very late at night under my covers looking for dogs to adopt. And then, after searching for an hour or so, I see a picture of LUCY (now Violet) who looks sad and in need of a bath. It says below it: "Urgent: will be killed in a few days." I immediately fill out the application and, honestly, forget about it. I remember thinking I had no chance to get her. I knew there would be a LONG list of people wanting to rescue Lucy. So, I made plans to see a puppy that weekend in a San Diego shelter. I was going to get a dog no matter what!</div>
<div class="font_8" style="background-position: 0px 0px; border: 0px; font-family: 'open sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">

August 13th comes and I'm looking forward to my trip to San Diego with a friend until I get an email. It's from an organization called, The Mutt Scouts:</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="font_8" style="background-position: 0px 0px; border: 0px; font-family: 'open sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; text-align: -webkit-auto; vertical-align: baseline;">
My goodness, I was so excited!! We immediately began to email back and forth to set up a time for me to meet her. I told the woman that I was going to San Diego but that I would go meet Lucy if she was close enough. Turned out, she was staying in a foster home just two miles from my apartment! So, I drove over that day and met Lucy. She immediately came up to me and rested her head on my shoulder. I fell in love with her in that instant and named her Violet that evening. </div>
<div class="font_8" style="background-position: 0px 0px; border: 0px; font-family: 'open sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; text-align: -webkit-auto; vertical-align: baseline;">
<br /></div>
<div class="font_8" style="background-position: 0px 0px; border: 0px; font-family: 'open sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; text-align: -webkit-auto; vertical-align: baseline;">
A few days later, I had to meet up with Nikki from The Mutt Scouts to sign all of the paperwork and pay the adoption fee. She also had to make sure the apartment was safe for Violet and meet me. As I was filling out everything, she revealed to me that there were a lot of applications for people wanting Violet. She then said, "I saw yours and just knew you were the one for her. Sometimes you just know." And that brought me to tears. Someone believing in me through an online application and knowing that I was THE ONE. It gave me hope and reminded me that everything happens for a reason. So many things are out of our control in life. Actually, most things. Nikki's faith in me has brought a cute bundle of joy into my life and I owe her/The Mutt Scouts a huge hug. Violet is my best friend and, truly, is perfect in my eyes. She's teaching me a lot about unconditional love, particularly when she pees on the carpet!</div>
<div class="font_8" style="background-position: 0px 0px; border: 0px; font-family: 'open sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; text-align: -webkit-auto; vertical-align: baseline;">
<br /></div>
<div class="font_8" style="background-position: 0px 0px; border: 0px; font-family: 'open sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; text-align: -webkit-auto; vertical-align: baseline;">
She's also teaching me about forgiveness. Look at her. A teen mom, bred and then abandonded, left to starve, saved and now happy. She holds NO grudges from the past and just lives in the moment! I'm striving to be like my happy, sweet, Havanese doggie named Violet. </div>
<div class="font_8" style="background-position: 0px 0px; border: 0px; font-family: 'open sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; text-align: -webkit-auto; vertical-align: baseline;">
<br /></div>
<div class="font_8" style="background-position: 0px 0px; border: 0px; font-family: 'open sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; text-align: -webkit-auto; vertical-align: baseline;">
in terms of how she became a co-star in Single_Never_Married. Angela, the director, and I discussed casting a dog but one evening when she came over to take pictures for the web show, Violet kept looking right in the camera. It was as if she was saying, "I want to be in it, too!" And that's when the idea of having her in it came up. But even at the time, it was only going to be very minor. However, since she loves it so much, is great on set, and the audience adores her, we've chosen to have her in more of the web show. Check her out in this episode of <i>Single_Never_Married </i>below<i>: "</i>I'm Not Her Dog, I'm Her Daddy!"</div>

From the streets to Hollywood. Thank you, Violet, for coming into my life! Love you! The photograph in this blog has a group of dogs in it. Violet is the one on the left side. She was in a San Bernardino high kill shelter when Nikki from The Mutt Scouts was in there to rescue other doggies and saw Violet, along with other ones (they're in the picture) and knew she had to help them. So, she decided to take them to The Mutt Scouts and find them foster homes unti they could be placed in permanent ones. Thank you, Nikki!</div>

<br />
As many of you know I wrote a book with my father about dating called, <i>How to Get Real About Dating: A Father and Daughter's Guide to Finding Love at Any Age</i>. You can view the book's website <a href="http://www.howtogetreal.com/">here</a>. It was a great experience to write with my father and I feel blessed to know him better.<br />
<br />
A few months ago I decided to write a web show inspired by the book called, Single_Never_Married. I sent it to my now business partner, Angela Burris, and she expressed wanting to direct it. Since that moment not too long ago, we have been blazing ever since! The first season is shot. I also created several other shows and we now have a channel called WillP TV!<br />
<br />
What is Single_Never_Married about? A dating expert who sucks at dating. It follows the life of Deon, a dating expert, who hasn't had much luck at love. She wants nothing more than to fall in love yet she's very afraid at the same time. I'm sure many people can identify with this = ) I am starring in the show and it's my first time acting. You can watch the season premiere on NOVEMBER 18TH by going to WillP TV's website <a href="http://www.willptv.com/">here</a>.<br />
<br />
There will be content every week that you can watch and comment on. Feel free to check everything out and let us know what you think. I love feedback!<br />
<br />
I'm very excited about the future and it was so much fun to act in Single_Never_Married. I am definitely a writer at my core but acting is cool. Please tune in and watch on November 18th! Thank you.Lauren Hamiltonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05114867666903274550noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5045645065558680737.post-91552722979584681182013-05-27T19:10:00.001-07:002014-05-05T11:15:22.230-07:00I'd Love to Taste My Food: Chronicles of A Food Addict.<br />
We all get to a point where we feel absolutely gross. For you this may mean not showering for a few days, delaying a much needed hair cut, or going outside without lip gloss.<br />
<br />
For me, it's when I'm wearing my <b>I'M-A-FAT-ASS</b> jeans. The ones that hang loose on my body and don't give me any shape because I want people to not look at me. For added effect, I also pair this with a baggy jacket and unbrushed hair. I didn't notice how rough I looked until I went on a scale in my parents' bathroom and screamed twice. First at the number I saw and second at how much I had let my appearance go.<br />
<br />
At first I wanted to blame it on being single for so long (it has been almost three years since I had a girlfriend...like, a real one, though I have dated). Then, I realized that had nothing to do with it. I was simply eating and drinking way too much as I said to my stepmother who was next to me in the bathroom (unable to see the scale).<br />
<br />
And as I got back into my I'm-A-Fat-Ass jeans, I realized something had to change. Like, everything. Not just on the outside but on the inside. So, I got out a piece of paper and wrote, GOALS. The first thing on the list --<br />
<br />
#1 Stop being a fatass and look at yourself in the mirror once a day. Then, I decided to join Jenny Craig.<br />
<br />
That's right, I joined Jenny Craig to avoid looking like this one day:<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAcp8X_VIhBtQWmvye6dibcZ-RdA20a1cLk__SFwGNFOZrmhYJzciDePJKjWkUuM9KIMOHzOemjRfg6V2aAd8F9ux2Q55chAc_NE3mugiBvXRwfiDLmtDcANyfkhc-lGv7r2u7Y8cR4eU/s1600/2019879-chubby-female-trying-to-fasten-tight-jeans.jpg" height="457" id="irc_mi" style="margin-top: 0px;" width="320" /></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: xx-small;">Photo Found <a href="http://thankq4commonsense.blogspot.com/2010/11/just-buy-it-already.html">Here</a></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Is this a major exaggeration from the size I am today? Absolutely. Is it a realistic fear? TOTALLY. Many of us out there--Food Addicts--are one Big Mac and McFlurry away from being huge. I didn't join Jenny Craig because I'm huge; I joined out of avoidance and fear. I could feel myself right on the brink of letting it all go and that, peeps, is lethal. That one thought as I was on the scale scared me so much that I called a local Jenny Craig immediately to make an appointment.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
It was a relief getting the food and starting the program. I have to be real with you: I'd love to have some butter. Or, some eggs with bacon. Hell, even a little olive oil on my vegetables would be nice. Although the program is beneficial, I'd really love to taste my food. So far all I taste is cardboard with a little salt.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
But it's better than being in baggy jeans and a large sweater all of the time. I may never be the skinniest biotch on the block, but I damn well ain't going to be the fattest. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I'll keep ya posted on my Jenny Craig progress. Goal is 12 pounds. </div>

<b>"I feel like you're screening me." </b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>"Is this an interview or what?"</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b>"Enough with the questions already!"</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<b><br /></b></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I wrote a book on dating as most of you know (available on Amazon.com) and, as I'm finding out, there is a lot I can learn in that area. Now, in the book I don't claim to be perfect or know everything; people in their 20s...we're a little bit of a mess to say the least. But, that can be said about many age groups. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<i>Here's the question I want to pose to the group (you): Do you think it's okay to ask questions on the first date, or save them for later on?</i></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<i><br /></i></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
After a few recent dates and handful of women telling me that they feel like I "interview them" I have had to look within and ask myself this question. While I do think that no one should be answering questions during an entire date, it's also important to know the basics (or, the things that are important to you). For me, I like independent, strong, and assertive women who have ambition and know how to pay their own bills. So, here are some questions that I like to ask on the first date:</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<i>Where do you work?</i> I don't care where someone works. Just, dear God, have a job that allows you to pay your bills and not rely on anyone else.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<i>Do you live alone?</i> For me, I can't date a person who still lives at home with their parents. And, I do think it's a red flag if someone over 35 lives with someone else.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<i>What was your last relationship like? </i>This is a new one I've added since the last 4 out of 5 women I've met have had physical abuse in their prior romantic relationships. I definitely bounce if there's a history of this. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<i>Are you out of the closet and do you like public affection? </i>I once dated someone who wasn't okay with holding hands or being touched on the streets of West Hollywood (one of the gayest cities in the country) and that was not only a sign of inner homophobia but just weird. And someone who is not out of the closet is simply not my thang.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Knowing this information right away prevents me from getting emotionally invested first and then feeling like it's too late to pull out because I like the person. Been there, done that and I don't want to waste time.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Recently I went on a date with a woman who is great. And for the first time, I felt interviewed. "Lauren, how many relationships have you been in?" "What's your five year plan?" "Do you see yourself living in another city?" "Are you spontaneous?" Although her assertiveness took me by surprise, I didn't mind it. That's why I think the answer to the above question I posed is: <i><b>It depends on the person.</b></i></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<i><b><br /></b></i></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
For you, perhaps any amount of questions makes you feel interviewed and turned-off. However, for someone like me I like the confidence and "I know what I want" mentality. For quite some time I dealt with women who lacked those things so I find it refreshing. It simply depends on what you like.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
As my stepmother says, "There's no right or wrong answer." Do what makes you happy, even if it means throwing in a few questions...or not = )</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>

RESTAURANT – NIGHT<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<i>It’s packed in here. I’m in a corner
chatting with a FRIEND over cocktails. We’re having, what looks like, fun.<o:p></o:p></i></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<b>Friend</b>: I don’t know what to do.
He’s cute and has a great job. Plus, his you-know-what is HUGE. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<i>Too much information.<o:p></o:p></i></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<b>Me</b>: Yeah, but if he isn’t romantic and
you need romance, what are you going to do?<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<b>Friend</b>: Well, maybe he can change.
Maybe if I tell him enough he will get it and start doing really super hot and
sexy romantic things like give me flowers. I’m too cute and
young not to be wooed. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<i>I take a nice, long sip of my glass of wine.
She’s making me want to get very, very drunk.<o:p></o:p></i></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<b>Me</b>: You won’t change him and he’ll end
up feeling very resentful. People should feel accepted and good around the
person they are with. If he doesn’t, he’ll eventually feel really bad about
himself and give up. I’ve been there, regretfully. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<b>Friend</b>: Like, you’ve been the one to
try to change someone or vice versa?<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<b>Me</b>: Both. And even when I was trying to
change the other person I knew it was wrong, but I thought it would create a
different effect over time.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<b>Friend</b>: Whatever, you’re a lesbian.
It’s different.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<b>Me</b>: Uh, no, it’s really not.<o:p></o:p></div>

<b>Friend</b>: Okay, I’m going to be f*cking
honest with your right now. Don’t judge me.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<i>Ha, like that’s going to happen.<o:p></o:p></i></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<b>Me</b>: Okay. Shoot.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<b>Friend</b>: Besides his big you-know-what,
I don’t want to let him go because he has a nice job. He comes from a family that
has money plus he’s career driven so I know he’ll always be able to take care
of me.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<b>Me</b>: Makes sense. But didn’t you say he
doesn’t like to take you on trips…and that he rarely plans a date?<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<b>Friend</b>: He’s Jewish, that’s different. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<i>Everything’s different tonight.<o:p></o:p></i></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<b>Friend</b>: I’m over dating guys who are
broke, don’t have their shit together, or live paycheck to paycheck. Stability
is hot. I like the fact that he is so focused on his goals. But, I totally want
flowers, which I keep telling him. Ugh, but he gets the cheap ones. Ew.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<b>Me</b>: Let’s focus on what you’re saying
is a need of yours. You need romance. If you don’t feel special with him, money
doesn’t matter as much right?<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<b>Friend</b>: I don’t know. I may need
another drink to figure it out.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<b>Me</b>: Look at the pattern. You get
resentful, tell him he’s not taking you out enough, he promises to do better,
doesn’t live up to your expectations, and then you blow up and dump him. After
a day or two you go back. This has happened, what, four times in three months?<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<i>She starts to look off in the distance.<o:p></o:p></i></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<b>Friend</b>: He’s just so good in bed.
Sorry, but that’s hard to just let go of combined with his money. He’s going to
be rich one day. I know it.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<b>Me</b>: Wow, you don’t sound superficial at
all. That’s sarcasm, by the way. Look, everyone has a currency. Like, if I’m
dating someone who is broke but always cooks, makes an effort to do special
things, and is affectionate in private and in public, then I’m cool. Currency
is different for everyone. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<b>Friend</b>: Then what you’re saying is the currency I need is money?<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<b>Me</b>: And romance, girl, which means your
guy doesn’t have what you’re looking for unless you accept him for who he is
and know that he may never be as romantic as you’d like.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<b>Friend</b>: Ew.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<b>Me</b>: I know. But think of the time
and hurt you’ll save by figuring this out now. You like him--we know this. Do
you love him?<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<b>Friend</b>: Almost.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<i>I laugh.<o:p></o:p></i></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<b>Me</b>: Can you see a life without him?<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<b>Friend</b>: OMG, stop asking me these
questions. Just tell me how I can make him give me cute flowers and take me to Big
Bear.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<i>I sigh and order another round of drinks,
now throwing in the towel. This conversation keeps going in circles. At least I
can get to the point where maybe I’m spinning, too.<o:p></o:p></i></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
Everyone
has deal breakers. For some, maybe it is the fact that a person is broke, or
maybe that there is no intellectual stimulation. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<br /></div>
<div align="center" class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
<i><b>Whatever it is for you, that’s cool. But, trying to change someone to
fit into your expectations won’t get you the results you desire. That’s the
real, on the real, for real.</b><o:p></o:p></i></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
Perhaps
a better question is, <i>Can You Deal with
Their Currency?</i> My Friend was so busy focusing on her guy’s lack of romance
instead of what he brings to the table, which is shocking because he has checks
in 9 out of the 10 boxes on her What-I-Need-in-A-Guy List.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
I
dated someone who didn’t communicate well. However, in person it was great. I got her
undivided attention and she was very sweet. But when I wasn’t face-to-face with
her, there was little to no contact. Texts weren’t responded to in a timely
manner, she didn’t pick up her phone sometimes, etc. Instead of trying to
change this about her, I just asked myself: is this a deal breaker for me? Do
her other currencies outweigh this one incompatibility? Turns out, I couldn’t
deal with it. So, I took a step back. I didn’t try to change her or complain
about it, just let it go. What ended up happening was she improved communication on her own.<o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
Sometimes
you have to let people, or a situation, go in order to see what you really have—if
anything at all. <o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<br /></div>

<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><b>Me</b>:
“Uh, whoa. I didn’t know it was having this affect. I just want to be sure
before doing anything on the romantic end.”<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><b>Friend</b>:
“I’m not trying to be rude but I don’t have time. This year I’m not putting up
with any B.S.”<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><b>Me</b>:
“I understand that, trust me. But don’t you feel like it’s important to live in
the moment?”<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><b>Friend</b>:
“Absolutely. This is different. I don’t like feeling like I’m not good enough
or like I’m constantly being asked private things when you have no right, as a
friend, to do so.”<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<i><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">‘Not feeling good enough’. My Friend’s words
hit me and I suddenly understand what she’s saying and where she’s coming from.
No one deserves to feel that way. <o:p></o:p></span></i></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><b>Me</b>:
“I’m sorry you feel that way. So, I’m basically going to be on the friend list
forever if I don’t figure it out soon?”<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<i><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">My Friend laughs one of her easy and sweet
laughs. I smile, too.<o:p></o:p></span></i></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><b>Friend</b>:
“Not to give an ultimatum, but yeah. I feel like you’re special so I’ve been
patient...I mean even having this conversation for an hour. My time is limited
with work, reading, fitness, and my other goals. It’s all an investment to me.”<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><b>Me</b>:
“Got it. I understand where you’re coming from because I do believe that
certain things have a window period. Sometimes it can shut quickly and can’t be
open again.”<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<i><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Silence. My heart starts beating a little
faster as I feel fear creeping closer. What ifs run through my mind – no one
likes to get hurt. <o:p></o:p></span></i></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><b>Me</b>:
“Okay, relax. Everything’s going to work out. You’re spectacular, the best, and
deserve to feel nothing but appreciated. We will talk in person on Friday and get
on the same page. Don’t worry.”<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><b>Friend</b>:
“Hopefully it won’t be too late. Just kidding, I’m looking forward to it.”<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div align="center" class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-size: 16.0pt;"><span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">-CLICK-<o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">I
close my phone and sit there, puzzled and floored all at the same time. After a
minute or so, I start to wonder: Can someone be forced into walking inside the
window and going in? Do some people need to feel a nice, cold chill in order to
realize it’s better on the inside where it’s nice and warm?<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">At
first I thought, “No way! It’s not possible to be cornered, to be pressured
into a decision. But, then I thought about it more and realized that IT IS when
the potential loss of something great is the other option. Suddenly, the
thought of the window going down defeats the fear – sort of like a survival
mechanism. (Don’t leave me out here all alone! Extreme, but you feel me). What
seems blurry may become clear within minutes, seconds, hours, or days.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Perhaps
the real issue is FEAR and learning how to quiet its thoughts. Perhaps when the
focus isn’t on fear and it’s pushed to the side, only the truth is left. I
think certain folks need to be pressured, thrive on it in fact; sort of like needing
a deadline for a term paper in college. Sometimes, this brings out the BEST in
people. On the other hand, there are those who can’t step up and continue feeding the fear
when the pressure comes. One isn’t better than the other, right or wrong – just reality. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">In one way or another, love has a window period. I could feel it
through the phone – my friend’s truth – and knew this person would close the
window without hesitation, rightfully believing she deserves the best. <o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: justify; text-justify: inter-ideograph;">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Then,
shortly after getting off the phone, my heart stops racing and I slowly sink back
into my blankets, realizing that I deserve the best, too. </span><o:p></o:p></div>
